Our refurbished store in Borough, London, draws inspiration from the history of the area to create a vital new environment. The façade of the eighteenth-century building, once home to a banana merchant, has had its unique character sensitively restored while original ceiling joists have been carefully exposed and painted a warm white. Worn timber—its chipped lacquer a record of footfall through the years—sets the material mood while the market’s idiosyncratic green informs the store’s colour palette.

In keeping with our ethos of preservation and minimising waste, Aesop Borough Market repurposes furniture from one of our previous locations. These waxed, raw steel pieces sit in dialogue with warm timber counters and grey travertine surfaces. A muted painting by contemporary British artist Nigel Sharman hovers on the wall, an homage to everyday objects.
